Preventing problematic and harmful sexual behaviour

Everyone working with children and young people can help keep them safe. Explore practical resources below on body safety relationships, consent and online safety.

Prevention starts with connection

Prevention is about building the knowledge, skills and connections that help children and young people understand their bodies and boundaries, navigate relationships, and seek support when something doesn’t feel right. Your role as a safe adult is to build trust and create environments where this can happen safely.

Start early

Help children understand bodies, boundaries and rights from an early age.

Stay connected

Help children and young people navigate technology safely. Talk with them about what they might see online, how to think critically about it, and what behaviour is unacceptable, such as sharing sexualised images.

Keep talking

Help children and young people learn that bodies, boundaries, relationships and sexuality are safe to talk about, and that support is available when they need it. Prevention doesn’t depend on the perfect conversation or the right moment. Everyday, ongoing conversations are what count.
